Filtrete 2400 Elite,
October 8, 2013
October 8, 2013
I've been using the Filtrete air filters since they were first introduced a very long time ago, from my first apartment to a small townhome to a whole house.
But I think this new 2400 filter has finally gotten to a level of performance that it makes a bigger difference for me in my home air quality than my two floor HEPA air cleaners. It may not capture quite a small a particle, I don't know, but a central HVAC system is moving so much more air than a HEPA cleaner that it seems to make up for the difference, at least as far as my allergy symptoms go.
I change these ever 3-4 weeks. Maybe that is overkill, but I've suffered with allergy headaches my whole life and these new ones have given me noticable relief this year.
I want to urge 3M to keep increasing their best Filtrete's performance, because studies have shown allergen particles get fragmented over time into much tinier sizes than companies cite (and the link has recently been shown in serious studies with heart disease and even cancer from the smallest of air particles).
So my plea to 3M is to not ever stop continually improving these and decide, Well, 2400 is good enough, we'll stop there. (I don't know why you don't put like 10x as many pleats in the filters so you can use a much more restrictive media and capture finer particle, but I'll leave that to your engineers!)
Bottom line, my own experience is that these are noticeably better than any 3M has made before, by a fair amount.
